It's the MTV Movie Awards!!!

Much like a lot of MTV specials (such as the VMAs), the MTV Movie Awards have grown to become a tradition to all MTV fans. Serving as an alternative to other award shows, the MTV Movie Awards allows fans to vote for their favorites (instead of an academy or panel like the Oscars and Golden Globes). This sometimes results in unexpected victories such as Wedding Crashers and Transformers winning Best Movie. I don't mean that movies such as these are not worthy of awards, but their content would probably cause the Hollywood Foreign Press to laugh in their faces if they were even on the ballot for the more prestigious award ceremonies.

Anyway, another aspect of the MTV Movie Awards that truly makes it stand out is the no-holds-barred atmosphere. Instead of the usual red carpet, this award show uses the gold carpet, and the celebrities dress accordingly. For example, the common theme of this year's fashion was skin-tight and revealing attire (as usual). Although the stars could truly have wowed everyone with some fantastically hip dresses and shoes, I was actually pretty bored by this year's gold carpet style. It seemed like most of the emphasis was on hair and makeup, and not the actual dresses. For example, Lindsay Lohan had what I consider to be perfect hair and makeup, but her dress was pretty dreadful. It was very unflattering and didn't seem like it fit her at all.

Another example, Megan Fox. Her dress looked like a bad Halloween costume, but her head shot from the event sure is fabulous.

However, there was a bright light at the end of this tunnel...Lauren Conrad. Her dress, hair, makeup, shoes, and jewelry were all simple, yet chic. She wasn't trying too hard to stand out (ahem...Lucy Walsh), which made her look very elegant among her peers, so she actually stood out for good reasons. :0)

Honorable mention goes to Rumer Willis who looked absolutely stunning in a black Hervé Léger. I don't know how old she is, but she looks very mature and sophisticated. She actually looks a little bit like TLC's Kat von Dee.

Mischa Barton + Marissa Cooper = HAUTE

It goes without saying that Mischa Barton is most famous for playing the rebellious Marissa Cooper on Fox's The O.C. However, her interesting fashion taste is perhaps what's kept her on magazine covers after the tragic cancellation of The O.C. Mischa Anne Marsden Barton was born in London, but she moved to New York City when she was four. She essentially had an actor's upbringing because she primarily attended performing arts schools such as the Professional Children's School in Manhattan and The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and began acting at nine years old.

Mischa has clearly been a talent from a very young age. I remember her performance in The Sixth Sense, which was my favorite Barton performance (aside from her role in The O.C., of course). Although technically she's an actress, I consider her to be one of my fashion icons...on and off-screen. As Marissa Cooper, she drifted toward more trendy and refined looks. In real life, her personal style is edgier and more rock & roll-inspired.

Here is an example of the Marissa Cooper signature elegance. She's wearing a white pearl Chanel necklace with a matching white clutch and top.

$574.00

Compare that to the real Mischa seen below. Notice the stark difference between light, airy, So-Cal Marissa, and the dark, grungy, mysterious Mischa. Here she dons a John Lennon tee, high-waisted darkwash jeans, bright red lips, and not one, but TWO chic designer bags. The black one is the Louis Vuitton Rivets bag, and the larger one is the Louis Vuitton monogram Sac Chien doggie bag.

$1,830.00

Here is Mischa again, but this time she's wearing lighter daytime looks, and rocking the awesome Chanel Charm flap bag in all three looks.

$265.00

Even when she has to get glammed up for a red carpet event, Mischa still sticks to her trendsetter mentality. Here she is at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival in a white haute couture Christian Dior gown, highlighted by crimson red lips and old hollywood style eye makeup.
